Farmer protests in Bucharest spark political accusations

Protests by farmers and shepherds in Bucharest's Piața Victoriei have sparked political debate and public commentary. Political figures from the PNL and USR have accused the AUR party of attempting to hijack the demonstration, claiming the group sought to transform the economic grievances of agricultural workers into a political manifestation. PNL spokesperson Ionel Bogdan specifically condemned political slogans used during the event, suggesting the protest's original purpose was obscured by political maneuvering.

In a separate reaction, television presenter Dan Negru expressed support for the protesters. He cited his own family's agricultural roots in Banat and criticized what he termed ‘eco-bureaucracy,’ arguing that excessive environmental regulations and the protection of wildlife, such as bears, are harming the livelihoods of Romanian farmers. He also highlighted Romania's status as a major European exporter of wheat and corn.
