Farmers’ Almanac predicts heavy winter snow for US regions

The Farmers’ Almanac has released its long-range winter weather forecast, predicting significant snowfall across various regions of the United States. The publication, which has provided predictions since 1818, suggests that much of the volatile weather may be driven by a potentially historic El Niño event currently affecting the Pacific Ocean.

Heavy snow is forecasted for the interior Northeast, specifically in Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, and upstate New York, with the heaviest accumulation expected during January and February. The Great Lakes snowbelts, including northern Ohio, Michigan, and Wisconsin, are also identified as areas prone to sudden snow squalls. In the West, the southern Rockies are expected to see increased snowfall compared to the previous year, while higher elevations in southern California and Arizona may experience more precipitation than usual.

While metropolitan areas like New York City and Boston are expected to see more rain or slush, other regions such as Colorado and New Mexico are also predicted to face massive snowfall. Experts note that while El Niño has historically triggered freezing spells, its long-term impacts can vary, sometimes resulting in unseasonably mild temperatures.
