Farmers in India protest for higher sugarcane prices and unpaid dues

Farmers in northern India are intensifying protests over sugarcane pricing and unpaid dues. In Haryana, farmer organizations BKU (Charuni) and Ganna Kisan Sangharsh Samiti are demanding the State Advised Price (SAP) be raised from Rs 415 to Rs 600 per quintal. Protesters plan to hold kisan panchayats in Yamunanagar and Naraingarh to address rising input costs and delayed payments, warning that failure to act could lead to wider agitation and reduced cane availability for local mills.

In Uttar Pradesh, hundreds of farmers gathered for a mahapanchayat in Meerut. Led by the Bharatiya Kisan Union, demonstrators demanded fair sugarcane prices, the settlement of pending dues, improved electricity supply, and the availability of fertilizers. The group also sought clarity on government loan waivers and warned of expanded agitation if their memorandum is not addressed.
