Farmers protest land acquisition for SIPCOT industrial park near Parandur

Farmers in the Maduramangalam area near Parandur are expressing strong opposition to the Tamil Nadu government's plan to acquire 8.38 hectares of land for a SIPCOT industrial park. The project, estimated to cost approximately Rs 175 crore, is intended to establish a semiconductor and electronics manufacturing hub.

The land acquisition notice, issued by Land Administration Commissioner Rajesh Lakkani, states that compensation for owners will be provided through SIPCOT funds. While maps and documents are available for public inspection at district revenue and special tahsildar offices, local farmers have raised concerns regarding the fairness of the process.

Protesters have questioned the logic of acquiring agricultural land in Maduramangalam for an industrial park, especially following the previous government's decision to cancel the Parandur airport project. They have compared the situation to the Ekanapuram site, questioning why different standards of justice are being applied to different regions.
