Farnham MP urges Waverley Council to cut Christmas parking charges
Gregory Stafford, MP for Farnham and Bordon, has called on Waverley Borough Council to reduce parking charges in Farnham during the Christmas period. The proposal aims to support local shops, pubs, and restaurants as they attempt to recover from months of disruption caused by the Farnham Infrastructure Programme.
Stafford noted that businesses have faced a difficult period due to rising costs and ongoing construction works. He argued that lower parking fees could incentivize shoppers and diners to return to the town centre during the vital festive trading season.
Waverley Borough Council responded by stating its Christmas initiatives will focus on encouraging visitors to stay longer to increase high street spending. Cllr Tony Fairclough indicated that the council aims to balance supporting businesses with maintaining a high turnover of parking spaces to ensure availability for all visitors.
