Farooq Abdullah calls on Indian government to condemn human rights abuses in Pakistan‑occupied Kashmir

Former Jammu & Kashmir chief minister and National Conference president Farooq Abdullah said on 29 July in Srinagar that the Indian government must raise its voice over recent incidents in Pakistan‑occupied Kashmir (POK). He highlighted killings, student protests, high unemployment, drug abuse and a recent security crackdown, urging the government to act if it regards POK as an integral part of India.

Abdullah appealed to the United Nations Human Rights Commission, the Prime Minister and the Foreign Minister to intervene and investigate alleged violations. He questioned the silence of Delhi while India repeatedly asserts its claim over POK, and warned that student demonstrations would continue if their demands are ignored.
