Farooq Abdullah Demands Restoration of Jammu Kashmir Rights

National Conference president Dr. Farooq Abdullah addressed a gathering in Srinagar on July 11, accusing successive central governments of repeatedly failing to honor commitments made to Jammu and Kashmir. He recalled promises from the era of former Prime Minister P. V. Narasimha Rao and a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying the promised reduction of the distance between Delhi and the region has instead widened.

Abdullah urged the restoration of the people’s rights and dignity, criticizing local rivals he said act on Delhi’s directives. He highlighted the National Conference’s development work, citing construction of schools, colleges, hospitals and roads, and framed the party’s demand as a rightful claim rather than charity.

The speech calls for renewed trust between the centre and Jammu and Kashmir and warns opponents that betrayal will not be tolerated.
