Farooq Abdullah urges Indian government to intervene over human rights in Pakistan‑occupied Kashmir

National Conference president Farooq Abdullah called on the Indian centre to speak out over reported killings and alleged human‑rights violations in Pakistan‑occupied Kashmir (PoK). He said he had appealed to the United Nations Human Rights Commission, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Foreign Minister, questioning why Delhi does not publicly condemn the incidents in a territory it describes as part of India.

Abdullah also warned that student‑led protests in Jammu and Kashmir would continue if promises to the demonstrators are not fulfilled, and highlighted broader issues such as drug abuse, unemployment and a security crackdown that has led to thousands of detentions and house demolitions.

National Conference Additional General Secretary Choudhary Mohammad Ramzan reiterated the party’s peaceful campaign for the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s special constitutional status and full statehood, condemning rival parties and accusing the PDP of diverting attention. He urged the centre to honour its commitments to the region.
