Farooq Abdullah urges restoration of Jammu and Kashmir's Article 370 status
National Conference leader Farooq Abdullah said restoring Jammu and Kashmir’s special constitutional status under Article 370 remains the party’s foremost objective. He pledged to continue a “principled political struggle” until the August 5, 2019 revocation is reversed, describing the move as illegal, unconstitutional and undemocratic.
Abdullah blamed New Delhi for abandoning constitutional guarantees and for “harsh and alienating policies,” calling the central government’s promises of prosperity and development over the past six years “hollow and misleading.” He demanded the immediate restoration of full statehood and the launch of a credible political process to restore the region’s democratic rights. Abdullah also highlighted the National Conference’s historic reforms, such as the “Land to the Tiller” programme, and its contributions to education, health care, infrastructure and employment in the valley.
