Faroz Fishing Harbor undergoes reinforcement against Black Sea waves
Reinforcement works are underway at the Faroz Fishing Harbor in Trabzon to protect the facility against powerful Black Sea waves. The project involves replacing existing stone fortifications with massive concrete blocks, each weighing 21 tons, to increase the harbor's durability.
The initiative follows significant damage caused approximately two and a half years ago when large waves breached the breakwaters, damaging numerous small fishing boats and nets, and causing five vessels to sink. The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure launched the strengthening project about a year ago to prevent further structural collapses and cracks in the existing fortifications.
Ahmet Mutlu, President of the East Black Sea Fisheries Cooperatives Regional Union, emphasized the importance of the state's intervention, noting that the harbor had been facing the risk of collapse. The project is expected to be completed by the end of this year, providing a more secure and protected environment for local fishermen.
