Farrans appointed to build new skylinks at London Stansted

Farrans has been appointed to construct new covered walkways, referred to as ‘skylinks’, at London Stansted Airport. This project is a key component of a larger transformation programme aimed at upgrading the airport’s facilities.

The skylinks will provide direct, covered connections between the main terminal and the satellite buildings that house arrival and departure gates. By implementing these walkways, the airport intends to decommission its current track transit people mover system. This removal will free up space for a future three-bay terminal extension that is expected to add approximately 16,500m² of floor space, including new retail and dining areas.

The new walkways will feature passenger travelators and will be designed to accommodate assistance buggies to support passengers with reduced mobility. Construction is scheduled to begin later this summer, with sections being pre-assembled in an offsite hangar to minimize operational disruption and improve safety. Completed sections will be moved across the airfield overnight using self-propelled modular transporters.
