Farsala celebrates Dormition of the Mother of God and 1881 liberation

The Dormition of the Mother of God was celebrated with ceremonies in Farsala, marking both the religious feast and the anniversary of the city and province's liberation from Ottoman rule in 1881.

During the Divine Liturgy at the Holy Church of the Dormition of the Mother of God, Metropolitan Timotheos of Thessaly and Fanariopharsala delivered a sermon focusing on the theological significance of the Virgin Mary and the concept of Christ's incarnation.

Maximos Karakopoulos, a Member of Parliament for Larissa, also attended the celebrations. He emphasized the historical connection between the Orthodox faith and the Greek struggle for independence, noting that the religious feast coincides with the revitalization of the Greek countryside and the preservation of national traditions.
