FarseerTech launches RocXZoom robotic extreme zoom camera
FarseerTech, a company founded by former DJI engineers, has launched a Kickstarter campaign for the RocXZoom, which they describe as the world’s first robotic extreme zoom camera. The crowdfunding project has already raised approximately $250,000, significantly surpassing its initial $9,999 goal.
The RocXZoom is a 400-gram handheld unit designed for wildlife and bird photography. It features a motorized pan-and-tilt head, a 5-inch OLED screen, and an on-board AI chip capable of recognizing over 300 bird species. The camera offers a 20x optical zoom and a 50x hybrid zoom, providing an equivalent focal range of 40mm to 2,000mm.
Technical specifications include up to four hours of battery life and an IP54 rating for dust and splash resistance. The device aims to solve the difficulty of tracking distant, moving subjects by using mechanical movement rather than relying solely on manual adjustment.
