Faruk Bildirici criticizes media reports on non-existent car brand
Media ombudsman Faruk Bildirici has criticized several news outlets and digital platforms for reporting on the arrival of a non-existent German automotive giant in Turkey. Multiple headlines across various newspapers and websites claimed that a major German car brand was entering the Turkish market, citing that thousands of vehicles had already been produced and received European type approvals.
Bildirici pointed out that there is no automotive brand named ‘Siegfried Marcus’ in Germany. He noted that Siegfried Marcus was actually an Austrian inventor and engineer associated with early automotive history, rather than a contemporary manufacturer. The ombudsman used the incident to warn journalists about the necessity of skepticism and questioning, stating that reporting press releases or announcements without verification can turn journalists into tools for misinformation.
