Faruk Günuğur, prominent Turkish actor and administrator, dies at 78

Renowned Turkish actor and administrator Faruk Günuğur has passed away at the age of 78. The State Theatres announced his death via their official social media channels.

Born in Ankara in 1948, Günuğur graduated from the Hacettepe University State Conservatory in 1973 and began his professional career with the Ankara State Theatre that same year. Beyond his stage performances, he held several high-level administrative roles, including Acting General Manager and Deputy General Manager of the State Theatres.

His acting credits include notable productions such as ‘Kafesten Bir Kuş Uçtu’, for which he received an award for best actor, as well as ‘Cengiz Han’ın Bisikleti’, ‘Kış Masalı’, and ‘Ramiz ile Jülide’. He was also recognized for his television work, specifically in the series ‘Tek Türkiye’.

A memorial ceremony will be held on Thursday, August 27, at 14:00 at the Ankara Grand Theatre. Following the ceremony, he will be laid to rest at the Cebeci Asri Cemetery.
