Fashion industry faces transparency gap in production volumes
The fashion industry faces significant transparency challenges regarding its total production volume. Estimates suggest the sector produces between 80 billion and 150 billion garments annually, yet data from Fashion Revolution indicates that only 9% of analyzed brands disclose their actual production numbers.
To address this, the Association of Ethical and Sustainable Fashion (AMES) is launching the #ContarEstáDeModa campaign for 2026. Linked to The Or Foundation’s international 'Speak Volumes' initiative, the campaign aims to encourage brands to publish annual production volumes as a fundamental step toward measuring environmental impact, circularity, and waste reduction.
Raúl González, president of AMES, emphasized that while progress has been made in reporting materials and emissions, knowing the scale of production is an essential starting point for any meaningful impact reduction. In 2025, the campaign included 193 international brands, with over one-third being Spanish companies.
