Fashion industry sees decline in body inclusivity during SS27 shows

Data from the Spring/Summer 2027 fashion shows in London, Milan, and Paris indicates a significant regression in body inclusivity. Following a period of growth driven by the body positivity movement, the representation of curvy models on runways has stagnated or declined, now sitting between 2% and 3%. This represents a near halving of curvy representation over the last two years.

London was noted as the most inclusive city, with plus-size looks accounting for 0.5% of appearances, while Milan saw only 0.1%. While brands such as McQueen, Ferragamo, and Miu Miu included mid-size or plus-size models, the broader industry trend shows a return to rigid beauty standards centered on thinness. Observers have linked this shift toward standardized body types to the rising use of weight-loss medications like Ozempic.
