Fashion weeks in South Africa and Brazil showcase diverse trends
South African Fashion Week (SAFW) concluded its autumn-winter 2027 season in Johannesburg, featuring over 27 collections. The event highlighted unique cross-industry collaborations, including the Soweto-based football club Orlando Pirates, which became the first Premier Soccer League team to participate through its ‘Field to Fashion’ showcase. Additionally, DJ Black Coffee collaborated with Joburg Ballet during the week, and the French house Pierre Cardin held its first runway presentation in South Africa.
In Brazil, the 61st edition of São Paulo Fashion Week featured more than 20 national brands presenting summer 2027 collections. Key trends identified from the runways include the integration of lingerie elements—such as lace tops, corsets, and sheer fabrics—into mainstream apparel, as well as a significant emphasis on transparency through materials like tulle, organza, and chiffon.
