Fast Air to deploy solar and battery power system at Abbotsford Airport

Fast Air, an Abbotsford-based company, is implementing a new mobile battery and solar power system at Abbotsford International Airport. The technology, developed by Richmond-based Holinova, is designed to replace traditional diesel generators with clean-energy alternatives.

The project is supported by up to $1 million from the British Columbia Integrated Marketplace program, managed by Innovate BC. This initiative aims to enhance the reliability of ground infrastructure for critical aviation services, including wildfire response, medical transport, and search and rescue operations.

By utilizing a system that does not rely on the electrical grid, Fast Air intends to maintain operational resilience during power outages or periods of high grid demand. The transition is expected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve the efficiency of aircraft charging and ground equipment power.
