Fast and the Furious celebrates 25th anniversary

The original “The Fast and the Furious” is celebrating its 25th anniversary with a 4K UHD re-release. The film, which launched a major action-crime franchise, follows an undercover Los Angeles police officer who infiltrates a crew of street racers and thieves.

Actress Michelle Rodriguez, who plays Letty Ortiz, has reflected on her role during the anniversary celebrations. Rodriguez noted that she worked to reshape the character to avoid mainstream stereotypes of Latina women. She stated that the original script, written by men, lacked depth for female characters and that she pushed to make Letty a more authentic and independent figure within the story.
