FAST telescope detects unusual radio signal near K2-155 system
Astronomers are investigating an unusual radio signal detected by the FAST radio telescope during observations of the K2-155 planetary system, located approximately 238 light-years from Earth. The signal, designated NBS 260108, was identified at a frequency of approximately 1,148.4167 MHz.
The system contains three known super-Earths, including K2-155 d, which orbits its star every 40.7 days and sits near the habitable zone. A notable characteristic of the signal is a gradual frequency shift, a phenomenon known as Doppler shift, which can occur due to relative motion between a transmitter and an observer. While such behavior can be associated with technological transmissions from extraterrestrial civilizations, researchers note that it does not constitute conclusive evidence of an alien origin and remains under investigation to distinguish it from human-made interference.
