Fatal accidents involving children reported in Chile and Argentina

Two separate fatal accidents involving children have been reported in Chile and Argentina.

In Villa Alemana, Valparaíso Region, a 9-year-old boy died after being struck by a car on Bernardo Leighton Avenue. Emergency responders from the SAMU and local firefighters attempted to save the child for approximately 30 minutes, but death was confirmed at the scene. The SIAT of Carabineros is investigating the circumstances of the collision.

In San Carlos de Bariloche, Argentina, a 3-year-old girl died after her family's vehicle lost control on icy roads on Bustillo Avenue. The car went off a dirt path and submerged into Lake Nahuel Huapi. While the parents managed to escape and were hospitalized with injuries and hypothermia, the child remained trapped by her seatbelt. Divers from the Prefectura Naval and local firefighters recovered her body after a two-hour operation. Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.
