Fatal accidents reported during sporting events in Italy and Spain
Two separate fatal accidents occurred during sporting competitions in Italy and Spain.
In Rieti, Italy, 59-year-old glider pilot Danilo Fachin died after his aircraft crashed into a clearing in the La Torretta area. The accident took place on Saturday afternoon during the Coppa Città di Rieti, a gliding competition. Emergency services arrived at the scene near the Ciuffelli airport, but Fachin could not be saved. Investigators are currently working to determine the cause of the crash.
In Spain, 48-year-old driver Jesús López died during the seventh edition of the Taboadela hill climb, a qualifying event for the Galician Mountain Championship. López lost control of his Forwin RS23, striking a parked vehicle and a house wall. The crash also left another pilot seriously injured and a spectator with minor injuries. Following the incident, the organization announced the cancellation of the event and paid tribute to López, describing him as a prominent figure in Ourense motorsport.
