Fatal apartment fire in Vienna-Döbling destroys roof

A major fire broke out in a converted attic apartment in the Pyrkergasse area of Döbling, Vienna, resulting in at least one fatality. When the Vienna Fire Department arrived, the flames had already spread to the roof of the multi-party building, and the apartment door had burned through.

Emergency responders rescued one resident from an inner courtyard balcony, but a female resident was found deceased inside the apartment. Two other individuals sustained minor injuries and were treated by medical services. More than 20 people received assistance at the scene.

Approximately 70 firefighters and 26 vehicles were deployed to combat the blaze. Due to the complexity of the roof construction, crews used specialized equipment, including saws to open the roof and telescopic platforms to reach the fire. The building has been declared temporarily uninhabitable, and authorities are coordinating emergency accommodation for the displaced residents. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
