Fatal collision in Sainte-Angèle-de-Mérici kills octogenarian

An octogenarian from Mont-Joli died following a collision involving a 53-foot semi-trailer truck in Sainte-Angèle-de-Mérici, Quebec. The accident occurred around 6:15 p.m. on Thursday in the Bas-Saint-Laurent region.

According to the Sûreté du Québec, the victim was traveling on Boulevard de la Vallée and entered Route 132 toward Mont-Joli when the truck, traveling on Route 132 toward Amqui, struck the vehicle. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The truck driver was taken to a hospital as a preventive measure.

Provincial police stated that it is too early to determine the contributing factors of the collision, and an investigation is currently underway. A collision investigator has been deployed to the scene to determine the circumstances of the event.
