Attiki Odos accident leaves truck driver seriously injured
A severe multi-vehicle accident occurred on the Attiki Odos near Metamorfosi, involving a truck and two passenger cars. The collision, which took place around 13:00 on a Sunday, resulted in the truck driver being thrown from his vehicle onto the suburban railway tracks.
Emergency responders, including nine firefighters, conducted a 40-minute operation to extricate the driver from the tracks. The driver, who reportedly was not wearing a seatbelt, sustained serious injuries and was transported to the ‘Red Cross’ hospital. The driver of one of the passenger cars sustained minor injuries.
The incident caused significant disruptions to both road and rail traffic. Police temporarily closed several entrances to the Attiki Odos and restricted traffic on the route toward the airport. Hellenic Train reported a suspension of service and electrification on the Metamorfosi – SKA section, leading to canceled train runs and delays. While road traffic has since been partially restored, some lanes remain closed, and rail services are undergoing a gradual normalization process.
