Police officers in Espírito Santo become defendants in fatal shooting case

Five military police officers in Espírito Santo have been named defendants following the death of 20-year-old Danilo Lipaus Matos. The incident occurred during a police pursuit in Colatina, where officers fired 42 shots at a vehicle, striking Matos with five bullets.

Investigations by the Public Ministry of Espírito Santo (MPES) revealed that the victim was mistakenly identified as a suspect in a truck robbery that had occurred hours earlier in Águia Branca. The pursuit began after suspects abandoned a stolen GM S10 in the São Brás neighborhood. Matos, who was driving a Fiat Strada, reportedly fled the scene out of fear of losing his provisional driver's license, which led officers to believe he was involved in the robbery.

Sergeant Renan Pessimilio, Soldier Eduardo Nardi Ferrari, and Corporal Rodrigo de Jesus Oliveira are facing homicide charges. Corporals Roberth Willian Meirelles and Bill Guidoni Ferrari are charged with attempted homicide against Matos and his companion, Ângelo de Cristo Ribeiro dos Santos, who survived the encounter.
