Fatal crash at SP-340 toll plaza near Jaguariúna kills driver, injures seven
On Sunday 26 July 2026 at about 09:50 a.m., a vehicle travelling at high speed struck the concrete barrier of the toll plaza on the Rodovia Governador Adhemar Pereira de Barros (SP‑340) near kilometre 123 – 123.5 in the Jaguariúna/Campinas area. The impact launched the car into the upper concrete beam and caused a partial collapse of the canopy covering toll booths 16 and 18, scattering roof debris onto the roadway and striking other vehicles.
The driver, a 24‑year‑old man, was seriously injured and later died in hospital. Seven occupants of the other vehicles were injured; initial reports listed one in serious condition and six with light injuries. Four toll booths were closed after the crash while three remained operational. No toll‑booth staff were present at the time. Police and the concessionaire Renovias opened investigations, and rescue crews from the fire brigade, SAMU and the police secured the site and cleared the road.
