Fatal crash on B51 near Mettlach, Germany kills driver and injures passenger

A two‑vehicle accident on the B51 highway between Saarhölzbach and Mettlach on the night of 24‑25 May 2026 resulted in one death and one serious injury. The occupants of a Hyundai lost control, the car overturned and caught fire. The 41‑year‑old driver, a resident of Luxembourg, died at the scene. The 31‑year‑old passenger was severely injured and was air‑lifted to a hospital in Saarbrücken.

Police reports indicate the occupants were not wearing seat‑belts and that excessive speed may have contributed to the crash. The road remained closed for several hours while emergency crews extinguished the fire and cleared the wreckage. A police‑appointed expert is investigating the exact cause, and investigators have appealed for witnesses to come forward.
