Fatal fall at Bogotá TransMilenio station kills passenger
A passenger died after falling onto the tracks at the Venecia station of Bogotá's TransMilenio bus rapid transit system on Tuesday night. The victim, described as a man in his mid‑40s, was reportedly trying to board the system without a ticket when he lost his balance and fell to the pavement, suffering a head injury that proved fatal.
TransMilenio officials said the incident halted service at the station until about 10 p.m., after which operations resumed. Witnesses gave conflicting accounts, with some claiming the person attempted to enter the platform without paying and others suggesting he was descending from an articulating bus. The accident adds to the city's ongoing concerns about pedestrian safety, as more than 160 traffic‑related deaths have been recorded in Bogotá this year.
