Fatal Five-Vehicle Pileup on BR-116 Near Vitória da Conquista, Brazil
A five‑vehicle collision on the Santos Dumont stretch of BR‑116 near Vitória da Conquista, Bahia, left one woman dead and several others injured on the night of Friday, 3 July 2026. The crash occurred around 19:40 when a passenger car was rear‑ended by a truck, triggering a chain reaction that involved three additional vehicles.
Emergency services from the fire brigade, SAMU, the Federal Highway Police and other rescue units responded, transporting the injured to local hospitals. Traffic on both directions of the highway was halted until about 22:00 while investigators from the Technical Police Department conducted a forensic examination and the victim’s body was taken to the regional medical‑legal institute. Authorities have not yet released the cause of the pileup.
The deceased woman, identified as a resident of the nearby town of Poções, was traveling in one of the passenger cars. The identities and conditions of the other injured parties were not disclosed.
