Fatal head-on collision in Itakyry leaves one dead and four injured

A violent head-on collision between a Toyota Sienta and a medium-sized Hino truck resulted in one fatality and four serious injuries in the Tape Porã colony, Itakyry district, north of Alto Paraná. The accident occurred around noon on Route PY06 near kilometer 70, a curved section of the road.

The deceased has been identified as 35-year-old Merced María Mazacotte González, who was driving the Toyota. Two women traveling in the car, including 26-year-old Luz Mabel García Alonso, were trapped in the wreckage and required rescue by volunteer firefighters from San Alberto. They were transported to the Hernandarias district hospital with serious injuries.

The truck driver, 31-year-old Elpidio Morínigo Portillo, and his brother, 27-year-old Brahian David Morínigo Portillo, also sustained injuries and were taken to a medical center. Preliminary reports suggest the crash may have been caused by an improper overtaking maneuver.
