Fatal moped accidents reported in Suriname
Two separate fatal moped accidents have been reported in Suriname.
In the first incident on Van Idsingastraat, a 20-year-old moped rider, identified as I. L., died following a collision. The accident occurred when the individual attempted to overtake another moped, resulting in a collision with an oncoming vehicle. While the companion rider was treated and released, the oncoming driver remains in intensive care with an uncertain prognosis. Police have seized the involved mopeds for inspection.
In a second incident on Sir Winston Churchillweg, 19-year-old Rieshajed Noerkhan died following an accident. Although initial reports suggested a collision with a car, preliminary investigations indicate it may have been a single-vehicle accident. It is suspected that Noerkhan lost control of the moped and struck an EBS utility pole. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, and the Traffic Unit of the Middle Region is conducting further investigations.
