Fatal mountain accidents reported on Mount Yotei and Mount Fuji

Two separate fatal mountain accidents involving hikers have been reported in Japan.

On August 31, a woman in her 50s died while climbing Mount Yotei in Kutchan, Hokkaido. The woman was part of a group of seven when she began complaining of a severe headache near the ninth station of the mountain. After being rescued by police and fire departments and transported via helicopter, she was later confirmed dead at a hospital. Authorities are investigating the exact cause of death.

In a separate incident on September 1, a 44-year-old man from Taiwan died while climbing Mount Fuji. The man had separated from his group at the Yoshida Trail 5th Station to attempt the summit alone. He lost consciousness on the trail near the summit around 3:25 PM. Despite being transported down the mountain by a tracked vehicle and rushed to a hospital in Fujikawaguchiko, he was pronounced dead. Local police are investigating the circumstances of the incident.
