Santa Cruz de Yojoa traffic accident kills one woman
A multi-vehicle collision in the El Balín sector of Santa Cruz de Yojoa, Cortés, resulted in the death of a woman and left several others injured. The accident involved a Toyota pick-up, a white JAC truck belonging to Cargo Expreso, and an International semi-truck transporting a fuel tanker.
The deceased has been identified as Valeria Santos. Reports on her age vary between approximately 25 and 58 years old. The occupants of the pick-up were members of a local Christian church, the Jesucristo el Verdadero Dios temple, and were returning home from a religious service at the time of the crash.
Emergency responders, including the Fire Department and paramedics, treated several individuals at the scene. Among those injured and transported to the Juan Pablo II clinic were Wilmer Joel Quintanilla, 46, and Heemnia Orellana, 64. The drivers of the JAC truck and the fuel tanker were reported uninjured. The collision caused a gasoline spill on the roadway, creating additional hazards for the area. The National Directorate of Roads and Transport (DNVT) is investigating the cause and sequence of the collision to determine responsibility.
