Slovenian family killed in fatal crash on Croatian A1 highway
A six-member Slovenian family was involved in a severe traffic accident on the A1 highway near the Rovanjska exit, close to the Maslenica Bridge in Croatia. The vehicle veered off the road and plunged into a 15-meter-deep ravine during rainy conditions.
An elderly man, the grandfather of the family, died at the scene. Five other family members were transported to the General Hospital in Zadar. Among the injured are two women, one of whom sustained serious injuries requiring surgery, and two minors who suffered minor injuries. The father, who was driving, and the two children were not detained at the hospital following medical examinations.
Police officials, including Neven Paškalin of the Zadar Police Department, stated that the most likely cause of the accident was speed not adapted to the weather conditions, specifically the rain and wet road surface. Traffic in the area between the Sveti Rok and Rovanjska junctions was temporarily restricted to a single lane with a speed limit of 60 km/h following the incident.
