Fatal Road Accidents Reported in Cyprus and Algeria

A weekly traffic report from the Northern Cyprus Police General Directorate recorded 73 road accidents across the region, resulting in one death and 21 injuries. The incidents caused material damage of 4.65 million Turkish lira, with the highest number of crashes (22) occurring in Girne. Speeding, failure to stop at intersections and careless driving were identified as the leading causes. Police checks during the week examined 18,302 drivers, leading to legal action against 3,052 offenders and the seizure of 184 vehicles.

In Algeria, a passenger bus overturned on the 79‑numbered national road in Constantine Province, killing six people and injuring 22. The crash prompted a rescue operation by the Algerian Civil Defense General Directorate, and authorities opened an investigation to determine whether driver error or a technical fault caused the accident. The incident adds to recent serious bus crashes in the country, reviving concerns over road safety and speeding.
