Fatal road accidents reported in Uganda and Zambia

Two separate fatal road accidents occurred on Thursday, August 27, 2026, in Uganda and Zambia, resulting in multiple casualties.

In Uganda’s Kiryandongo District, a collision occurred on the Kampala-Gulu Highway between a Toyota Hiace van and a Fuso truck. Preliminary investigations by the Uganda Police Force suggest the truck experienced a sudden tyre burst. As the truck driver attempted to pull over, the trailing van crashed into the rear of the vehicle. The accident left one person dead and four others injured. Authorities noted that mechanical defects remain a significant safety concern and have intensified enforcement against unfit vehicles.

In Zambia’s Rufunsa District, a head-on collision between a Zhongtong bus and a Volvo truck on the Great East Road resulted in four deaths and 36 injuries. Police reported that the truck driver moved into the opposite lane to avoid a stationary vehicle, striking the bus. The victims included the bus driver, the bus conductor, and two individuals in the truck. The injured passengers and the truck driver were admitted to Mpanshya Mission Hospital for treatment.
