Fatal shootings reported in Kisumu and Kilifi counties
Two separate fatal shootings have been reported in Kenya, raising concerns regarding local security.
In Kisumu County, a police officer shot and killed an unidentified man during a night patrol at Masogo Market in Muhoroni Sub-County. According to reports, the man was armed with a panga and acted aggressively toward the officer and a nearby private security guard. After the man allegedly ignored orders to surrender and continued to advance, the officer fired a single shot from a Jericho pistol. The body has been moved to Ahero Hospital mortuary for postmortem examination as investigations continue.
In Kilifi County, a 70-year-old man, Malingi Kiwayi Weru Kauma, was killed in a late-night attack in Viambini Village, Ganze. A masked gunman on a motorcycle arrived at Kauma’s residence and shot him once in the mouth. The assailant fled the scene immediately. While preliminary investigations suggest the deceased was involved in land dealings in the Ganze and Kauma sub-counties, a motive has not yet been established. The body is being held at the Kilifi County Referral Hospital Mortuary.
