Fatal shootings reported in Marawi City and Mindanao regions
A series of fatal shootings has targeted individuals in the southern Philippines, including a driver in Marawi City and two Moro community leaders in Maguindanao del Norte and Sultan Kudarat.
In Marawi City, 54-year-old Musa Mariano Ongka was shot dead while riding a motorcycle on Wednesday morning. An unidentified gunman on a motorcycle allegedly followed Ongka and opened fire, inflicting multiple gunshot wounds to his neck, back, and shoulder. Police recovered ballistic evidence believed to be from a .45 caliber pistol and have launched a manhunt for the suspect.
In separate incidents, two community leaders were killed within a 24-hour period. Datu Manalao Nur Sr., a former barangay chairman, was killed in an ambush while traveling in a pickup truck in Esperanza, Sultan Kudarat. The following day, Datu Amil Beno, a barangay council member, was shot while riding a tricycle on a farm-to-market road in Datu Odin Sinsuat. While authorities have not confirmed a connection between the attacks or established motives, the killings have raised concerns regarding the safety of local leaders involved in community peacebuilding.
