Fatal shootings reported in Málaga and Massachusetts

In Málaga, Spain, the mother of a 20-year-old man killed by mistake is calling for justice and increased public security. One month after the shooting, three men remain in prison for the crime. Investigators believe the assailants mistook the victim for a member of a rival gang, falsely assuming he was carrying a weapon. The victim's mother stated that her son had no connection to organized crime and was merely carrying personal items, including an adrenaline pen for a severe food allergy.

In Reading, Massachusetts, a 22-year-old man, Ryan Hanafin, has been accused of fatally shooting his mother, 49-year-old Andria Hanafin. Authorities state the shooting followed frequent family disputes regarding the large number of cats the mother was fostering in the home; 84 cats were discovered during a house search. Prosecutors allege the suspect sent disturbing messages via Snapchat following the attack. The victim's husband discovered her body after returning from work on October 8.
