Fatal traffic accidents reported in Arapongas and São Luís
Two separate fatal traffic accidents occurred on Wednesday in Brazil.
In Arapongas, Paraná, 52-year-old Marinalva Aparecida da Conceição Rodrigues died following a head-on collision on the BR-369 extension. Witnesses reported that a Volkswagen Santana crossed into the opposite lane, striking Rodrigues’s Honda Biz motorcycle. The driver of the car was taken for medical evaluation with suspected minor head trauma and a leg injury. The victim, a minister at the São Francisco de Assis Parish, was pronounced dead at the scene.
In São Luís, Maranhão, 63-year-old Joelena Maria de Souza was killed in the Liberdade neighborhood when an out-of-control box truck struck her. The vehicle reportedly lost control on a hill, crashing through a residential wall. Witnesses stated the truck appeared to have mechanical issues that had been previously reported by residents. Before the impact, de Souza managed to push her two-year-old great-grandson into a house; the child was hit but survived without life-threatening injuries. The driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with police investigations.
