Fatal traffic accidents reported in Palermo and Messina

Two fatal traffic accidents have been reported in Sicily, prompting calls for improved road safety measures.

In Palermo, a young person riding an electric bike died after being struck by a truck in the via Belgio area. Preliminary reports suggest the victim lost balance while attempting to avoid a van, making the collision with the heavy vehicle unavoidable. Local officials have criticized the delay in activating the Intersectoral Technical Table on Road Safety, urging the immediate coordination of municipal and regional authorities to identify high-risk areas.

In Messina, a 17-year-old student, Rebecca Galli, was killed in a collision on via Don Blasco. The incident involved a 16-year-old on a scooter who attempted an overtaking maneuver and collided with a Volkswagen Taigo in the opposite lane. The teenager sustained a fractured femur, while the impact caused the student to be thrown onto a parked car. The Prosecutor's Office for Minors has opened an investigation into vehicular homicide, and authorities are reviewing surveillance footage to clarify the dynamics of the crash.
