Fatal traffic incidents reported in Honduras

Two separate fatal incidents involving vehicles have been reported in Honduras. In Dulce Nombre de Copán, two men died after their motorcycle was struck by a vehicle, causing them to crash into a concrete wall. Preliminary reports suggest the incident may be linked to a prior attempted murder in the community of Caleras, where a woman was shot. Initial accounts indicate a relative of the injured woman may have been pursuing the suspects in a vehicle before the collision occurred.

In Comayagua, a mother, Roxana Paola Cortés, and her young daughter were killed on October 12, 2026, while attempting to cross the CA-5 highway near El Porvenir. The victims were returning from shopping when they were struck by a black pick-up truck. Authorities from the National Police and the National Directorate of Roads and Transport (DNVT) are investigating the circumstances of the accident.

These tragedies occur amid high rates of road fatalities in Honduras. According to data from the Secretariat of Security, 1,568 people died in more than 15,374 traffic accidents between January 1 and October 9, 2026.
