Fatal Train Collision at Gengenbach Railway Crossing
On 8 July 2026, a car entered a partially secured railway crossing on Kinzigstraße in Gengenbach and was struck by a Regionalexpress. The driver of the car died at the scene, while the train driver remained unharmed. The line was temporarily closed for forensic and safety investigations, and the train resumed service after the tracks were cleared and evidence was secured. Police and the Federal Police conducted inquiries, and victims’ assistance was offered at the nearest station.
The accident prompted an immediate suspension of traffic on the affected section of the Schwarzwaldbahn while authorities continue to determine the exact cause of the collision.
