Fatal wrong-way collision in Houston leaves one dead and one critical
A wrong-way driver died early Sunday morning following a head-on collision with a Chevrolet Suburban on Houston’s South Loop West near Tierwester Road. The wrong-way motorist, described as a man in his forties, was the sole occupant of his vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Suburban sustained severe injuries and was transported to Ben Taub Hospital in critical condition. While the driver of the Suburban showed no signs of impairment, investigators have not yet determined how the wrong-way motorist entered the freeway lanes.
A secondary collision occurred while police were securing the initial accident scene. A truck struck two patrol vehicles while officers were standing outside of them; however, no officers were injured in the second impact. The driver of the truck admitted to officers that he had not been paying attention.
