Fatalities reported in Tatra Mountains and Toruń
Two separate incidents involving fatalities have been reported in Poland.
In the Tatra Mountains, a young woman died following a fall of over 200 meters on the Orla Perć trail. Her body was discovered on August 12, 2026, near Mała Buczynowa Turnia by a hiker descending from Przełęcz Krzyżne. Due to the difficult terrain, a helicopter was dispatched, but rescuers from TOPR confirmed she had already passed away. It is believed she was hiking alone, and authorities are working to establish her identity and nationality.
In Toruń, the body of a 49-year-old man was discovered in the moat of Fort św. Jakuba on the evening of August 10, 2026. Preliminary police investigations suggest that no third parties were involved in his death. Local community members believe the deceased may have been a homeless individual. An autopsy will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.
