Father Arrested for Ordering Son's Murder Over Debt in Goiás, Brazil

Police in the state of Goiás arrested Ozanan Ricardo Machado, 59, on suspicion of ordering the killing of his son, Thaliton Henrique Dias Machado, in January. Investigators say the motive was a debt of roughly R$ 50,000 that Thaliton had allegedly lent to his father. The murder was carried out by the victim’s brother, Wanderson da Silva Souque, who confessed to receiving R$ 15,000 for the crime. The stepmother, Simona Viana Silva, and the brother were also detained. Authorities are probing whether Machado also sought to eliminate other potential witnesses, including his own wife, and continue to investigate the long‑standing disappearance of Thaliton’s mother, Aparecida Almeida Dias.
