Father Elísio Dias, influential Quarteira priest, passes away
The Loulé Municipality has expressed public condolences following the death of Father Elísio Dias, a prominent religious and social figure in Quarteira. Born in Guimarães in 1930, Dias served as the parish priest of Quarteira for 37 years after being ordained in Faro in 1967.
During his tenure, he was instrumental in the development of local religious and social infrastructure. His projects included the expansion of the Church of Nossa Senhora da Conceição and the construction of churches in Pereiras, Vilamoura, and São Pedro do Mar. He also established the Quarteira Parish Center, a nursing home for the elderly, and a social cafeteria.
Beyond religious duties, Dias was a key driver of the Quarteira Popular Marches during the 1970s. In recognition of his community contributions, he was awarded the Municipal Merit Medal (Gold Grade) by the Loulé Municipality in 1997.
