Father Joe premieres at Venice Film Festival
The film ‘Father Joe’, directed by Barthélémy Grossmann, has premiered in the Venice Open section out of competition at the 83rd Venice International Film Festival. Written by Luc Besson, the action thriller stars Kiefer Sutherland, Ever Anderson, and Al Pacino.
Set in 1990s Little Italy, Manhattan, the story follows a non-traditional priest who wages a personal war against organized crime. Rather than relying solely on faith, the protagonist uses combat and unconventional methods to dismantle criminal organizations and combat drug trafficking. The film is described by the director as a modern fable regarding faith and redemption, blending genre cinema influences from the 1980s and 1990s with a stylized, almost comic-book aesthetic.
